sorry john...

...the John Kalagian Team Challenge is no more. Its now the vinyl-wrapped popout Liquid Shredder team challenge. Guess who rides these boards? Nobody surfing in the team challenge is the correct answer. Just another example of how Folly Beach "jumped the shark". Is this how we honor John Kalagian, a man that many local surfers hold in such high regard is getting second billing to a foamy beginner board? I'm ashamed for the ESA. What's next, the Summer's Eve Wahine Challenge? I can't be certain, but I smell a douche...

I get such a different imagine from the words "Pure Peruvian".

Perhaps those that are jumping the shark will land ass first on it's teeth...

It's a slap in the face to John and his family.

I think Nancy is friends with the vinyl shredder guy. But that is no reason to have a contest backed by what I consider to be a toy...not even a beginner board. Who even sells that crap around here anyway? I think I've seen maybe one kid on a shredder about year or two ago.

if you don't surf
you don't know nuthin about surfing-don redondo
thats the problem on folly. non -surfers running the show.

I think it would be cool to have a stand up paddle contest right before the surfing contest. That would be totaly awsome!!!!

contests around here are so silly.same bunch of repeats competing with each other over and over.
it truly takes more away away from surfing than it adds. especially on the local level ,the battle of the bums, if you will.
the contestants should move up or go home. no repeating the bottom rung of the ladder for the rest of your life. contest are not a substitute for travel ,so don't bore me with your contest results, buy a ticket somewhere.
the true beauty of surfing doesnt come from competing ,if fact the opposite is true.
if you like flying kites go fly one ,but you don't have to enter a contest to get it.
So to all you contestants ,go big or go home ,or do you really wanna still be playing for the riverdogs when your 40?

Drew...that Anonymous guy hurt my feelings. And now I don't wanna surf anymore. Think I'll take up cross stitching. There are no bullies in that activity. Fair well world of surfing...anonymous made me do it.

Some people enjoy friendly competition with their friends... and of course, some non-friendly competition as well. It's true that the contests around here can often be a joke, but until you've put on an event like this yourself, quitcherbitchin! Live and let live... if you don't like contest surfing and think that it's lame, don't do it!

As for LS sponsoring the event, someone had to do it. John wasn't such an arse that he'd object to a big company sponsoring a contest that brings people together for a friendly, no point event. John was a good man who is still missed.

Maybe the competitors of this event aren't riding LS boards... but many of their kids are.

if its true contests around here are a joke why would i want to put on an event?
Surf for yourself ,and don't worry what other people think .Your surfing will speak for itself just fine.

But my surfboard only speaks Greek. How will my surfing be understood?

All of you "Anonymous" poster should add an A, B or C behind your Anonymous...cause I'm finding it hard to follow who posted what. Thanks.

This is a late response, but I only just read some of the later posts.

I could give a rat's ass that LS sponsored the event. But, to call it the "LS Team Challenge" is the slap in the face I talk about.

It should have been the "JK Team challenge (presented by LS).

That's all I'm saying.
