...ruins it for everyone

At this point you are probably aware of all of the trash that was left behind after the celebrations of our emancipation from tyrannical Britain, but what you may not be aware of is the consequences which could come into effect. To anyone who sees this picture and others, which can be seen HERE, it is clear that something needs to be done to combat this overflow of garbage. One solution that is being kicked around City Hall is the banning of alcohol on the beach. This is not a new idea, but now a new reason for it has come to light giving the alcohol ban some steam. Personally I think that the litter is just an excuse to push forward this anti-alcohol legislation as other means of regulation (stricter enforcement of the no cans or bottles on the beach law) would seem to make more sense. Now don't get me wrong, I hate nothing more then a bunch of Ohioans getting drunk and trying to catch a football while tripping over each other, but I also hate being told what I can or can't do.
What can you do? Well, they are inviting the public to be heard on the evening of the 27th at 6:30 in City Hall so show up and tell them what you think.

At Long Last

With a ship date of June 1st and a delivery date of July 9th, half of our long awaited and much anticipated Lost order has finally arrived. It has been a long and arduous journey but after a month and some change, their trek across the continental United States has met its conclusion. We received 21 boards, too many to list. But we did get several round nose fish and rockets. We even got a few in XTR.

...I know someone who will be excited.

Dedication

So... you think you are a fan of Lost.

Maybe you have one of their stickers

Maybe you ride one of their boards.

Maybe you wear their hats.

You might even wear their T-shirts, but...

... you still don't like lost as much as this guy.
(and he is only 15)

Karma.

I guess I shouldn't have made fun of people with cankles... lesson learned.

Enjoy the Fourth... Relax.

It is important to celebrate your country's independence from the power hungry tyrants of Great Britain (a different time). In that spirit go foward and enjoy your BBQs and fireworks, but don't forget to relax. It seems that this year Rita has found another way to celebrate her independence. You know, I always thought she was squinting all the time. Now I know why.

No one complained.

Despite the lack of boards between 7' - 9', the demo went down with minimal complaints. We ended up bringing out 13 boards which included a shop classic (that sea foam green 5'5" Round Nose Fish).

We even had some surf. Well... there was surf in the morning, but with the afternoon came a little wind and a little chop.

Even some of Folly's finest made it out to ensure our demo would stay can free. F...in cans, when will people learn?

Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

If you couldn't make it out yesterday don't worry. There is always next year.

Man... I hope there is some surf tomorrow.

Surfboard demo tomorrow from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the contest shack at the washout. Boards available include a 6'3" Lost Shark XTR, 6'3" Allison GT Fish, 6'10" Mckevlin's Fun Shape, 6'0" CI Biscuit, 6'2" Sharp Eye SB1 Quad, 5'5" and 5'8" Lost RNF's, 5'10" Sharp Eye GL3, 9'6" Bing Silver Spoon, 5'10" CI Shashimi, 5'10" Lost Monk Fish, and a few others.
Surf forecast is calling for a little wind chop surf so try to make it out if you can.

Safety First.

A law in NC classifies every ones beloved SUP in the same category as kayaks and canoes. What does this mean for the majestic janitors of the sea? It means that a life jacket or PFD is required on board at all times. This law is enforced on local waterways as well as in surf zones. The reason this law applies to SUPs and not other craft (surfboards, rafts, etc.) is the paddle. I find it to be a disturbing thought that the only thing that separates my surfboard from a SUP is a stick. With NC marking these sea sweepers for ridicule by instituting a uniform, it is only a matter of time before these regulations drip south... if they haven't yet.

I can't wait.

Gold Chains Aren't Just For Rappers...

Flipping through the most recent issue of the Folly Current I stopped on the police report write up to see what was happening in Folly's notorious underworld. I saw the usual stuff, DUI's and a fight at the Sand Dollar, but what I didn't expect to see were 6 reports of stolen surfboards. It seems a different kind of wave is lapping upon Folly's sandy shores. However, this crime wave of surfboard thefts can be put into check. How can you avoid becoming a victim? Don't leave your board in the back of your truck unattended, make sure you put your boards inside at night instead of keeping them in the front yard, and most importantly get a giant gold chain and a big lock.

International Go Surfing Day...

... is six days away. Celebrated last year with a stormed out board demo, this year we are doing something different.

If you have been by the shop more then a few times you probably have seen a Channel Islands MSF (single fin) hanging above your head.

You may even have thought to yourself, "I'd like to have one of those 'Merrick' single fins to mess around on."

But then you saw the price and for $750 dollars you could get a pretty awesome shortboard or fish, even longboard. And just like that your dreams of retro bliss fade away.

The same old story over and over again, well not on International Go Surfing Day. This July 20th we will be having a drawing for this gorgeous 6'1" Channel Islands MSF. To enter the drawing just stop by the shop on June 20th and wish us a happy international go surfing day and you will receive an entry. We will only accept entries on the 20th and the drawing will be held at 5:30. You do not have to be here during the drawing to win but you do have to come in to drop off an entry slip. One per person so you can't get one for your bro bra.
We are still having a board demo, but that won't be until the 27th.
