space invaders...

...polyethylene sponges made in California by Custom X. One of these things could come in handy if the pier is firing sometime between 10 and 6 this summer. I'll lay down for 100 yard lefts with no one else out...

gotta make money!

how anyone could have thought the lifeguards would help surfing at the pier has gotta be out of their friggin mind!

yeah, Ive already been run off several times. Its gonna get pretty bad when its raining, with no swimmers, on a head high hurrican surf Saturday.

i've never seen the interest of surfers on folly take such a beating as in recent times.is there some select group of "surfers" that the city only listens to? we seem to suffer from not having a voice in anything.or the voices that represent surfing are sure not helping much.

Apparently jet skiers have more rights than surfers because they are still at the pier running through the swimmers all day.

jet skies near swimmers? thats wack - how many littel kids ahve been killed?

join the boycott.the boycott is on!Don't spend any $ on folly.
its about all we can do except try to convice surfers who live on folly to wake up and call city hall. also call esa /surfrider and tell them they have been AWOL. (Good luck with that.)
We(surfers)should get at least one side of the pier, after all ,we paid for it with our taxes. Another solution is to share the recreational facility. When its flat ,swimmers, but on the rare occasions we have waves, evidenced by the crowds of surfers most likely, we get to surf one of the finest left points on the East Coast.
We should also get a chance to park without paying $1 per hour.
Folly ,James Island ,its all one community, and for Folly to make their neighbors pay $1 per friggin hour to park is not only rude but divisive.Town against town ,neighbor against neighbor, way to go Folly Beach government, its official ,we hate you.

Anon goob is dead wrong about Surfrider being AWOL on this.

Shows what they know and how many of the meetings they actually attended.

Anonymous said...

yeah, super job on that.I'm guessing they declared victory.
Ah yes the name calling..

Finest left point? You've got to be kidding me. Don't get me wrong, it's a great wave when it's working...but left point? You need to get out more.

and the Washout is "one of the premier surfspots on the East Coast"...

Anonymous said...

whatever you want to call it,I've ridden it head high from the pier to the condos, thats not the point tho.
And the washout sure seemed to break better in the past than it does now.Too much sand?
How good a break the washout? Not worth arguing about .Having the pier taken away during the day,
that sucks.

Sorry goob, someone who slanders an entire orginization with false accusations is way more than just a goob. The shoe fits, so wear it.

The only reason you're "guessing they declared victory", is because you have no idea. Super job on that.

And another thing... consider the pier is taken away for only 4 months out of 12, from 10 to 6, that's 8 hours a day. It gets light around 5:45 am now and stays light till after 8. So you can still surf it for 6 hours a day during that 4 month period and can surf it all day the other 8 months... and there are several miles of beach breaks that is still fair game.... it's called a compromise. I realize some of you x box generation don't understand that word, but you also have to realize the world does not revolve around you. I know that is harsh reality but surfers don't "rule".

You have to learn share.

and they don't know how to share the earth we live on.

where we surf at on I.O.P. there are no lifeguards and usually a lot of swimmers.... a lot of the same faces i see seem to be cool with sharing the beach with the tourists as well as me.. there is also pier regulations. i agree with GRUMPS and say share man (in my cheech and chong voice).. a boycott sounds a little extreme there Mr. KING.. relax and enjoy surfing for once... the one issue i have is people fishing in the most crowded part of the day... don't blow my goat, i love to fish as well, but there is a time not to fish...

Anonymous said...

"Don't blow my goat"!!!!

LOL, What the hell kind of expression is that??

Besides DJ, I didn't know fishing and goats went hand in hand....I guess now I know.

Grumps point is very valid. It's only 8 hours, during the summer, plenty of time to surf the pier. And, if by chance it's firing during those hours, chances are there are plenty of spots left on this long barrier island that are, too.

However, I do want to see Ian on a sponge taking that 100 yard left.

...and I'll venture to say that the best swells come after Sept 15, when the pier is wide open again. So far this "waiting period" I don't think the buoy has been over 2 feet. Besides, last year whern it was just getting chilly, we had a storm swell hit. I managed some mid day surf time so I pulled up to check the pier. Quick estimate, 40 to 60 people on it. Lot's of Washout regulars were there, no where to park except I have a gold pass.... I passed on the cluster @#^& and drove WEST.

Can you believe it? A car with surfboards on it won't fall off the edge of America by turning west instead of east. Needless to say, on my trusty gunny 9 footer I was catching these walled up outside crankers, taking big drops, slashing over the inside bar and into a radical inside speed run for a whole city block.
Got out, ran up the beach and repeated the process till I'd hada plenty.. all by myself. One day I wished there a few folks out to hoot it up with.. but they were all fighting at the pier, 5th east, 9th east or the Washout... It's actually quite lol... Plenty free parking too, and a shower... (hint hint).

djjahd said...

i will surf there with you.... and hoot it up....

djjahd said...

i will not shower with you though!!! thats just wierd man.

Anonymous said...

Yea, the "hint hint" about the shower was giving away the spot to those who spend enough time on Folly to know.... not a "hint hint" I want to shower with dudes after a surf.

I.R. said...

Blowing goats and dudes showering together, how did it come to this?

crowds-don't bother me.
regulations forbidding surfing, hmmm, lemme think ,thats a toughie .gee uh I guess thats good, yeah thats it ,banning surfing is good,oh ,ok got it.never mind sharing one side for surfers ,one for the rest, nah that dont make sense ,better to ban it and add lifeguards for good measure.never mind the way it used to be ,last year ,if the storms came in the summer it was great fun surfing there, nobody ran anyone off. But of course thats bad.restricting surfing is good .I get it .Whew ,thanks for setting it straight on this here blog.
