Do You Pee In Your Wetsuit?

I do, and recently thought everyone did. Well after some discussion at the shop I wanted to take a poll to find out how many other sick bastards are out there pissing on themselves. Voting is on the right.

Channel Islands Motor Boat

Here is Rob tearing through the surf on his eco-friendly vegetable oil diesel engine motorboat. Why is he in such a hurry? To deliver new Channel Islands to Mckevlins...

...Like the new Motorboat. Described as a cross over between a biscuit and a Gravy, it looks a lot more like a cross between a Gravy and a  dumpster diver. Which is good news because the gravy needed a little more beef through the tail. The Dims on this particular Motorboat are 5'8" x 19 3/4" x 2 1/2.
$675.00
(look, I know, but it is a Channel Islands. We already price them lower then CI's suggested retail.)

Have a Merry Christmas! (at home because the waves are flat)

While Ian surfs in head high bacteria ridden waste water, I was hoping for a little Christmas surf today. To my disappointment it is flat again. I guess I was bad. Oh well, there is always  next year. Merry Christmas.

Mr. Hankey Would Go...

It's been a moist one over here, and no doubt the water quality isn't very good. But sometimes you have to weigh risk and reward and ask yourself "What would Mr. Hankey do?"

Well, Mr. Hankey went, and he even hooted me into a couple nice lefts. I think I still have a piece of him stuck in my ear.

New From Lost

You guys may have seen Slater with something like this in Quiksilver adds, well Lost saw it too and thought it was a good idea. They call it Twin Fusilage Technology. The idea is that the two stringers 13" apart through the middle of the board keep the board rigid under the surfer's body reducing unwanted flex from pumping down the line. The tail is stringerless to store energy under your back foot that snaps back for bursts of speed out of turns. The carbon fiber on the tail elongates the flex and strengthens the tail. The carbon fiber on the nose keeps it from snapping off when you're vertically slashing during low tide at the Washout.

Fins from Machado...

...so of course there is some bamboo in them. It has been said that Rob even handpicked the bamboo for these fins from his time drifting around the jungles of Melali. Then he used eco-whiteout to hand sign each center fin from the set after drawing a wing on the side fins.

The carbon fiber on the base of the fin is for drive. The bamboo stores energy by flexing into turns and then straightening out to give you more speed when coming out of the turn. The side fins are similar to the EA template from Future with Vector II concave. The slightly smaller rear similar to the F4 template. Come by the shop and check them out just in time for the holidays.*

Here is a video from the Lost website I thought was funny. (You will too if you know people like this*.)

Folly Film Friday (actually Thursday, but who doesn't love alliteration)

If you saw the most recent Lines news letter (how could you not have) then you probably know about the surf movie coming out in March featuring the best of Folly from the end of last summer. While March may seem like months away... a little taste of Earl, Nicole, and more to alleviate your hunger will be available Thursday (12/9). You can find it at the Thomas Bros. Blog here.

Congratulations Alex

Yesterday we had the drawing for this 9'10" Bing Gold Standard during our Black Friday Sale. The lucky winner is Alex Perkins. Alex realizes that some of you may be dissappointed that you didn't win. To help allieviate this disappointment: he said if you want to borrow it no problem. Just give him a call at
(843) 899-2255 anytime.

I guess now Tom can finally buy that creation mansion he wanted and get off of that crap plantation.

Check Out the New Tail

This is a new model from Lost called the Flashback fish. A board reminiscent of times when everything looked like a butt. I guess I'm not old enough to remember such a time, but who am I to argue? This particular one is a custom order. We don't have any stock ones yet, but depending on the feedback from the few customs we've gotten maybe we will. I think this tail is also featured on a revamped version of the Uber Plank.

10 Time World Champ

Winning his heat today against Adriano de Souza in the Rip Curl Search 2010 Puerto Rico contest marked Kelly Slater's 10th world title. After the first two waves of the heat which scored him a 9.83 and a 9.00, Slater surfed another six waves giving Jordy Smith a high five while pulling off of the last one. And people say he's from Florida.

Rest In Peace Andy Irons

A champion has passed away today. Just at the beginning of his long awaited comeback, Andy was cut down by what is being reported as Dengue fever.

Andy Irons brought a punk rock attitude to surfing and was one of the few who could find the chink in Kelly Slater's armor. He had a bulldog style and was absolutely fearless in waves of consequence. He is, and will be, regarded as one of the best ever to put a surfboard under his feet. Our condolences go out to the entire Irons clan.

Check out the new Surfer...

...especially the "Ask A Local" section.

I'm sure Surfer Magazine doesn't like me posting sections of their magazine on the Internet, but I thought it was nice to see the reach of our No Pop-Out stickers. It doesn't matter what side of the country you try to hide, the long arm of Mckevlin's will still find you.

Good Dharma

We don't usually get too many boards under 8' from Bing, but if they look like this maybe we should. This model is called the Dharma and this particular board measures 5'6" x 21" x 2 1/2". The Dharma carries a lot of its volume through the center of the board with a flat deck up to the nose. The rails taper off pretty quickly to a sharp rail with a relatively hard edge (to make up for the loss of maneuverability due to the width). Bings are known for being pricey, but this one is a reasonable $555. Come check it out.

Check out the trailer My Eyes Won't Dry 3
It's on Wednesday. It's at 7:30 and it's FREE. Why wouldn't you come?

(...because you hate fun and surfing.)

New for aught'11

When Matt Biolos and his crew rolled through town last summer, the Uber Plank was one of Aaron Cormican's board that is going to be available in 2011.

Similar to the Plank in that it is wide and flat, but different also with a winger leading to a more pulled in tail and thinner with more aggressive rails. Check out the video below.
(it's the same board)

Tropical anti-depression...

There aren't many people I miss surfing with in South Carolina, but Cuff and his crew are always a blast to surf with. This image of Cuff getting barreled doesn't even show his real strength, which is huge hacks and powerhouse surfing.

Bryant is one of my favorite surfers... to drop in on. Guy comes to visit and almost gets me banned from my local surf spot, sheesh. Regardless, punting one over on Surfline.

Waves and waves... finally some consistency.

broken glass everywhere...

What do you do when you show up at work at 7Am only to find that the building was broken into the night before? Watch the surf contest via WIFI in the parking lot until the cops sort out the mess.

6-8 foot pumping France beach break is good stuff. Nothing better than watching the pros get flogged by heaving, grinding waves that could possibly be Folly Beach on 10 cycles of steroids. Next to Kelly's ridiculous comeback in round 4, this heat on screen was my favorite as Owen Wright broke 3 boards in 15 minutes.

Looks like we've all been getting barreled for the last week or so in shifty beach breaks on both coasts, so get it while you can cause nothing lasts forever!!

Kinetik Racing Fin Co.

Kinetik Racing is a new fin company out of Australia and a product of JS surfboards combined with some Australian surfers (Occy, Parko, and Luke Egan) and the Irons Brothers. Similar to the RTM Hex material from Futures or the Performance Core construction from FCS, these fins have a flat inside foil for tail release and longer bases then typical templates for more drive. Right now we have the four templates above in either FCS or Future bases.

The best video ever...

Not only is it free, there was no hype preceding it, and its the gnarliest surfing going down.

With no further adieu, here's Dane... crushing.

Jimmy Slayed...

Normally I would bust Jimmy Slade's balls for riding a pop-out, but in this case I would need a 30-lb sledge to crack those giant brass balls like the Liberty Bell. Jimmy said he was taking off at 2nd bar and spraying people sitting on 1st bar R. Kelly style on the way to the grinding inside. Straight peeing on people. Real talk!!

What's a turn when you have all these fancy tricks?

Folly Beach offers up a lot of waves that allow for a single maneuver before it sizzles out. So why not use that one chance you have to bust? In this trailer, Chippa shows you the way.*
Music by WAVVES. Album: King of the Beach. Song: King of the Beach - Highly Recommended.

*Disclaimer: Trying these maneuvers will eventually lead you to landing on your board fins up. Trust me.

My Name Is Earl

Anyone watching the news already knew there was a hurricane off the coast and to expect big surf.

Except for this guy. He pulled up to the beach expecting the usual Folly crap, but got so excited by what he saw that he ran all the way out to the line-up only to later realize he left his board in the car.

It was definitely a good day to surf.

But not a good day to sail.

I don't know what you're doing next week, but I think I'll surf.

Master of Mayhem on Monday

Sacred Craft Shape-Off winner Matt Biolos and team rider Aaron Cormican will be in the shop Monday the 23rd. Read the flyer.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

New from FCS is the H-3 Nexus. Similar to the H-2 fins, but with a more traditional template; the H-3's are an upright pivot fin but with a long stiff base for drive and a tip made of FCS's new Tricoil technology for a snappy flex to create speed out of turns. Next time you are thinking of giving your board an upgrade, check them out.

Surfer's Healing

Surfer's Healing was earlier today and once again was a huge success. Possibly the best event on Folly, Surfer's Healing travels around the country helping kids with Autism catch a few waves. The waves weren't awesome, but the kids didn't care. They had a blast.

Master of Mayhem...

Yesterday I witnessed Matt Biolos (that's me in the red) lay down the planer and blow the doors off the competition in the Sacred Craft shape-off honoring Simon Anderson. Hungover and sweating through his "Tear Down Your Idols" t-shirt, he hushed the whispers of "he's not going to win without his computer" and other snide remarks.

Congratulations to Matt on a job well done. Maybe he'll be heading over to Folly Beach to celebrate??

Demo Deals

Yesterday was our annual demo, and with 30 boards definitely our biggest. The surf wasn't great, but it was clean so everybody got some waves. I want to thank all the board companies for really going above and beyond and hooking us up with so many good boards, not to mention Grumpy, Dan, and the Mckevlin's team for helping out.

Because we had so many demo boards, we now have a lot of "used" boards. That means we have boards that have been ridden once and discounted upwards of $200. Seriously, check them out before they're gone.
