No one complained.

Despite the lack of boards between 7' - 9', the demo went down with minimal complaints. We ended up bringing out 13 boards which included a shop classic (that sea foam green 5'5" Round Nose Fish).

We even had some surf. Well... there was surf in the morning, but with the afternoon came a little wind and a little chop.

Even some of Folly's finest made it out to ensure our demo would stay can free. F...in cans, when will people learn?

Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

If you couldn't make it out yesterday don't worry. There is always next year.

Safety First.

A law in NC classifies every ones beloved SUP in the same category as kayaks and canoes. What does this mean for the majestic janitors of the sea? It means that a life jacket or PFD is required on board at all times. This law is enforced on local waterways as well as in surf zones. The reason this law applies to SUPs and not other craft (surfboards, rafts, etc.) is the paddle. I find it to be a disturbing thought that the only thing that separates my surfboard from a SUP is a stick. With NC marking these sea sweepers for ridicule by instituting a uniform, it is only a matter of time before these regulations drip south... if they haven't yet.

I can't wait.

Gold Chains Aren't Just For Rappers...

Flipping through the most recent issue of the Folly Current I stopped on the police report write up to see what was happening in Folly's notorious underworld. I saw the usual stuff, DUI's and a fight at the Sand Dollar, but what I didn't expect to see were 6 reports of stolen surfboards. It seems a different kind of wave is lapping upon Folly's sandy shores. However, this crime wave of surfboard thefts can be put into check. How can you avoid becoming a victim? Don't leave your board in the back of your truck unattended, make sure you put your boards inside at night instead of keeping them in the front yard, and most importantly get a giant gold chain and a big lock.

International Go Surfing Day...

... is six days away. Celebrated last year with a stormed out board demo, this year we are doing something different.

If you have been by the shop more then a few times you probably have seen a Channel Islands MSF (single fin) hanging above your head.

You may even have thought to yourself, "I'd like to have one of those 'Merrick' single fins to mess around on."

But then you saw the price and for $750 dollars you could get a pretty awesome shortboard or fish, even longboard. And just like that your dreams of retro bliss fade away.

The same old story over and over again, well not on International Go Surfing Day. This July 20th we will be having a drawing for this gorgeous 6'1" Channel Islands MSF. To enter the drawing just stop by the shop on June 20th and wish us a happy international go surfing day and you will receive an entry. We will only accept entries on the 20th and the drawing will be held at 5:30. You do not have to be here during the drawing to win but you do have to come in to drop off an entry slip. One per person so you can't get one for your bro bra.
We are still having a board demo, but that won't be until the 27th.

Tired of that same old single stringer torsional flex?

Well, if you are, here is a new (not really new, carbon fiber has been used on and off for years) solution offered by Sharp eye and featured on the shortboard of the summer, the sting fish.

Built with standard polyester resin on a standard polyurethane deck, the main difference is the absence of the stringer.

To maintain rigidity, the rails are wrapped with carbon fiber which also act as parabolic stringers flexing as you pull into turns. This adds a bit of momentum exiting turns which is translated to speed.

The Sting Fish or SF 1 is actually a fun looking shape. We have a standard construction 6'0" I have been thinking about grabbing.

Dimensions on the carbon rail board: 5'10" x 19" x 2 5/16"

$570.00

will you be my friend???

...I think Facebook is such a waste of time. I don't understand why people feel the need to tell their friends (every 20 minutes) what they're excited about or that they're craving pickles or a taint massage. But for every 1 person that agrees with me about Facebook, there are 10 that can't live without the endless stream of thought diarrhea.

Anyway, I stumbled on this gem looking for an interesting update to use as an example:

Nic Spalviero "is going to surf knee-high waves" so Will Klauber commented back "it is NOT thigh high. It's "It's time to go fishing" high. Even McKookland's called it flat on the report yesterday."

So McKookland's, er I mean, McKevlin's wants to be friends with people like Will and Nic so we can see what your up to, and vice versa. Visit our page McKevlin's Facebook page and become our friend. Then you could maybe become friends with Nic and Will and see if they went fishing or just grabbed a latte instead. Intriguing.

The Death of Anonymous.

Taking in consideration a suggestion from the ever-knowledgeable Old Kook I have decided to kill Anonymous. No, not the guy who called me a douche bag, just the anonymous posting option. I know Ian tried this in the past with limited success, but I thought I would give it a shot. Maybe people will think a little more before commenting if they have to take some sort of responsibility for it. Sorry I have been a little slow to update but I had to go out of town to attend a funeral. (Not anonymous')
