I was on my way to the beach Saturday when I ran into this and remembered; leave early on the weekends.
HAPPY EASTER

I got lucky, I went surfing really early Saturday and saw the line of cars and SUVs backed up for miles trying to get out to the beach as I was heading home at 2:30pm. However, today there was no traffic to or from Folly. The waves were still fun too. Summer crowds...not looking forward to it.
I argued with the meter maid at the Washout. Two of the ticket machines weren't working. So I asked her what you're supposed to do...my dollar wouldn't be accepted at one (kept spitting it back out) and the other one was out of paper (which stole a dollar). She says "you have to pay" and then went on to say "call the phone number on the machine"...so I say to her "It's not my job to make sure the machines are in proper working order and why should I have to use my cell phone minutes (and what if a person doesn't have a cell phone) to let your rip off company know their devices aren't working...then wait there for who knows how long, until someone arrives to look at it". After all I'm at the beach to have a good time, not to wait around at some parking machine that should be kept in good working condition. Or just park way down on the end and walk, which I usually do. Sorry just had to vent. PS. The meter maid didn't have a good answer to my statements.
Actually, I'd prefer a second access to the Island to alleviate the traffic problem. Yeah, it totally would go against conservation, etc. But, man, it would be nice to have more than one entry/exit. At least that way, when they have some event on Center street, you could still get to where you want to go...
Did anyone catch how many cops there were on Folly yesterday (Saturday)...looks like they were expecting a riot or something.
I agree with Ol' Kooker...a secondary causeway on and off FB would be great, but we all know that will never happen in our lifetime. And I suppose it wouldn't look very nice and interfer with some sort of environmental issue.

surprised folly didn't block the streets off for a merchant fest.

The beach is not a paid service - when is someone going to make a stand on those machines?
We can organize a peaceful protest via the internet / facebook etc. Remember what happen just recently in Egypt...the power of twitter.
too bad the local esa and surfrider were silent on the parking issue. folly residents first ,surfers second i guess.
oh boy... not this again.
Oh come on grumpy, even you would like it if the parking meters were gone. Let the people dream of a free Folly Beach and days of old.

best thing to do is to not support all the street closings. the street closings is too damn high!

Second causeway onto Folly= stupidest idea of all time.
1st causeway was the stupidest idea.
