New Sharp Eyes

Sharp Eye has a printer that can take any digital picture and make it into a vinyl laminate like this one. So, if you have a picture of your dog in a sparkly New Years hat then Sharp Eye is a good choice for your next board.

dane-o-mite!

Dane vs Joel - The Director's Cut from STAB on Vimeo.

Much like the banging EPMD track on this video, the turn combo at timecode 1:44 is flawless. Study this, or ride single fins like Drew and Grumpy.

Fixing a broken fin base

I have a single fin that needed a fin, and being the cheap bastard that I am I decided to fix this broken plastic fin.

I roughed up the base with 40 grit sandpaper to make sure the resin would stick after grinding little notches in the base to make sure I could sand the cloth flat.

I ground a chunk of suncure to fit where the fin was broken.

I glued the piece into place with laminating resin.

Then I wrapped a small piece of cloth and laminated that with a small brush.

I added a healthy hot coat of suncure instead of sanding resin because it has bits of cloth mixed with it and is stronger then resin alone.

I ground it all down to sit flush with the base.

Now I just need to drill a hole.

Identity Crisis

There was (and maybe still is) a kayak festival going on at the James Island County Park and guess what was there... SUP's. It's a sad day when the line between boats and surfboards becomes so faded.

Spring Break '10

It's spring break for the kids right now so the shop has been full of annoying little people all excited not to be in school... except this kid. He is such a bad-ass he didn't even know he wasn't supposed to be in school today. Stay strong brother, school is for losers.

No surfing... anywhere

I just found out that Folly City Council has approved a plan to increase the "safe swim zone" to encompass the entire beach. This means NO surfing on the entire shoreline of Folly between 10:00am and 6:00pm May through September. If you are caught surfing between these times you may get slapped with a $500 ticket or (as we all remember) even thrown in jail.
