bro...

...after scoring good waves again (this time at Cardiff Reef, shoulder high, clean, with 7 guys out, 4 of them friends of mine, but 1 of the other 7 was a French stand-up paddle boarder which is the equivalent of adding 20 people to the lineup... sacre bleu!) I ran into old friend and Folly Beach ex-patriot Ed Glinecki. It's a small world after all...

almost forgot...

...surfed Trestles again today with Justin Matteson from ...Lost. He remembered me (well, kind of) from when he stayed at my house for the ...Lost Surf Jam in 2003, and was ripping as usual. Justin was doing all the tricks Ozzie Wright became famous for 10 years before Ozzie, just never got the recognition. Check out all the old ...Lost videos, for real...

you thought charleston wasn't skate friendly...

...every buttery ledge in San Diego has these stupid skate-stoppers on them preventing anyone from doing a backside tailslide frontside shuv out. Frustrating...

sorry so late...

...I'm on west coast time. Just finished surfing Uppers with 8 guys out, shoulder-high sets, oil glass...sorry.

parabolic Sharp Eyes...

...got some PU/PE parabolic stringer Sharp Eyes in the other day. Haven't ridden one of the PU/PE parabolics yet, but my XTR epoxy parabolic (sd4 from ...lost) has been great in waves. It's not magic in your everyday Folly crap, but when it's got a little push behind it...you know what I'm saying? They're a couple hundred dollars less than Firewires, they are customizable and you know the rest.

Try to follow each stringer from nose to tail with one eye on each stringer and see if its possible.

FCS opens new factory...in Springfield???

...never really suspected that the Simpson's Springfield could be in toxic China. Homer is obviously at the controls over at the Springfield FCS factory...

...looking a lot like Blinky.
*These are FCS knock-off fin plugs, probably made in China. Not talking bad about FCS, the surfboard, Homer Simpson or Blinky.

Ween "La Cucaracha" listening party Tuesday night...

...come down to Woody's Pizza on Folly Beach for the CD listening party tonight. Come around 6:30 or so (or earlier if you really need a drink) and enjoy drinks specials and great pizza with the music of Ween starting @ 8:00pm. Their will also be t-shirt, poster and "other neat stuff" giveaways from Ween's stash. No, they won't be there. Or will they...

Jersey juice...

...woke up this past Saturday before dawn with the anticipation of 2-3 foot peaky and offshore nuggets to find barely 1 foot burgers. I got online to check the rest of the East Coast and immediately found a shot of Belmar, NJ, overhead and offshore, just minutes from my brother's house. I called to wake him and tell him to get his ass out of bed but was directed to his voice mail, and left the same message. Within minutes, as I looked at the pathetic showing of swell in front of my house @ 10th block, I received this picture of Belmar, NJ via cell phone. Life is not fair...

surf culture book...

...world renowned graphic artist/designer DC and C.R. Stecyck III and a few others put this great book together. Here's a Maurice Cole quote from the book:

"Think about what you are doing. The surfing industry rests on the shoulders of a couple of thousand craftsmen worldwide. A lot of these guys have spent years grinding out miserable existences just so they can surf. Beware of embracing anything that threatens the livelihood of dedicated individuals like these. They are the sport. Don't f--k with them."

great way to end the week...

...this was the only necessary 'Goofy vs. Regular' contest ever needed. Obviously, stance is not an issue.

And if you could do the turn at minute mark 3:06 in the video, your name would be Tom Curren. Final.

it's for your butt...

...having trouble finding a place to put your smokin' butt once you get to the beach? These 'butt catchers' are going to be on every walkover on Folly Beach to help alleviate the ridiculous amount cigarette butts littering our beach. If you smoke, use them. I know at least one redneck d-bag who I've seen smoke ciggies on his way down to the water's edge and then flick the butt into the ocean before he paddles out. Hoping for some karma to visit him soon in the form of a rabid sea turtle.

winner winner, chicken dinner...

...the Dirty South 2 video premier went down weeks ago (maybe it was a month) and we gave away a ton of swag from ...Lost, Body Glove, Reef and many more thanks to the crew from Hometown Heroes. We also gave away this beach cruiser courtesy of www.beachbikes.net. Here's the proud winner, Will McKibben who couldn't have made it anymore dramatic.

After getting skunked on Europe's side of the Atlantic for a few months, kicked out of France due to immigration crack down and coming back to Folly Beach after he swore to never return, and with the crappiest beach cruiser on the beach, things were looking down. Then his luck changed. They called his raffle number for the bike, oh joy, but low and behold he lost his ticket stub. After about 10 minutes of him searching we were about to pick another ticket when it mysteriously surfaced along with an eruption of applause from the crowd (except from the haters, of course). Good on ya mate!

more than just a snazzy dresser...

...shaper Chris Christenson of San Diego is a huge supporter of the no pop-out movement. He's a great shaper to boot, he rips and does some serious burnouts. Turn up your volume!

surf license plate 2...

...Tommy Bolus' play on Hale'iwa (pronounced how-lee-ay-va). Hale'iwa translates to "house of the frigate birds" so I guess Folyeva would translate to "house of the drinking seagulls."

surfing license plate week...

...Norman Godley bustin' out his 'HANG 10' license plate. This plate spent some time on the McKevlin's wall (what shop, I have no idea), recently resurfaced and was returned to its rightful owner. His current license plate reads '6FTSRF' or something like that. I think HANG 10 suits the conditions around here a little better.

more "ricky schroder" action...

...turns out the markets going to be flooded with thousands of these things in 2008. Look here for more info and other rantings from a businessman all about the "sport" of surfing. Do all "ricky schroders" bobble during turns on perfect rights?

average joe or ripper pro...

...the cops are still going to hassle you for surfing near a pier. Read this story and count the similarities between our incident at the pier and Peter Mendia and Shea-lo's in Florida.

still going...

...2:00 PM @ the pier today. Waist to stomach if you're not surfed out yet.

after shaka...

...stretching before exercise in extremely important, especially if the waves are going to be pumping or you're going to be driving around your neighborhood and seeing the bros. The Pop-Out Bandit didn't stretch before some pumping waves and broke his hand. Good news though is he's constantly spreading Aloha, whether he likes it not.
