Tear for Blackee...

...the lost dog "Blackee" had to be euthanized today. Since we don't make huge margins ripping people off with over-priced pop-outs, we couldn't afford to keep him around the shop. Blackee was a little spark plug. Being so young and full of energy its a wonder he was able to sit still for several days. Every time someone walked in the shop you could see the look of anticipation in his eyes hoping it was his owner. Alas, he was painfully dispatched at 3:57pm EST on March 28, 2007. R.I.P. lil buddy...

...dunna dunna dunna dunna Bat Tail!

...POW! BLAM! SOCKO! BABABOOEY! I like to picture those cartoon bubbles from the old 70's Batman show in my head when I'm crackin' the lip. Unfortunately I grew out of my old homemade purple Batman costume from that era. You can make all those noises and more on one of these coil technology bat-tail shortboards shaped by Tom Neilson. Stop by and check these boards out...or I'll show up at your house in my way too tight tights for some vigilante style justice.

new Neilson Surfboards...

*(don't try this at home)
...here's Tim putting the finishing touches on a 5'10" bat-tail quad shaped by Tom Neilson. These U.S. made boards are hand-shaped, stringer-less eps blanks with the equivalent of 16oz of cloth on each side. They are glassed using a top secret process which involves vacuums, epoxy resins, and pixie dust. The end result is an extremely resilient and lightweight board that is built to shred. Check 'em out...

lost dog...

...this cute little puppy was left in the shop over the weekend. It has no tags, smells like dried saliva and animal crackers and is very obedient. If you know who it belongs to send them in to the shop to pick it up or it will be turned over to the authorities for euthanizing tomorrow.

quads are the newest fad...

...Renaldo brought in his old Natural Art quad from the early 80's to show us:
a) He used to be able to surf a 5'8"
b) The airbrush matched the unicorns and rainbow scene on the side of his 78' Dodge van
c) quads have been around for a while
d) that he could make me jealous
e) all of the above

If you guessed "c" pat yourself on the back, because you are barely smarter than a 5th grader. If you logically chose "e" you're spending too much time analyzing this blog and should probably get back to work before your boss cans your genius self.

new Seasoned fishes & funshapes have arrived...

...I have always had a bit of a sweet tooth and when I was in grade school my version of the food pyramid was what you see above. Anytime I had a little bit of change in my pocket it went straight to Ferrara Pan and his henchmen. I always liked to test the limits and see how much candy I could eat before the first school bell rang. Well, one day I put down at least a box of each without any REAL breakfast in my stomach, and what ensued is one of the most visually complex vomiting episodes of my lifetime. I still recall the esophageal burn from a blended taste of Alexander the Grape, Mr Melon, Cherry Chan, Lemonhead and the Atomic Fire Ball as the mushroom cloud of candy exited my mouth onto the concrete. As my tearing eyes finally cleared, this is what lay before me. Flashbacks...

aye matey...

...my favorite pirate is back in town for a few weeks after a 6 week stint in Costa Rica. Bill Jones is putting the finishing touches on his new home down there which should be finished in April. As usual he had some great stories about life in Costa Rica, many including good waves and some including bodyboard thieving backpackers who got dealt with. He's already got a Tico posse and he picked up some new surf gear to bring back to the boys. Check him out at the ESA contest this coming weekend before heads back. Aargh...

Kiss me, I'm Irish!!!

...Tis' me birthday again and of all of the gifts I thought none could be better than gold,
but if I've gotten it once I've gotten it twice and I'm over a thousand years old,
so I went to McKevlin's (sounded Irish enough) to replace my shredding shillelagh,
with surfboards stocked like a clover patch its like they get new boards in daily,
it took me forever to check them all out from Sharp Eyes on down to the ...Lost,
what enamored me most among other things was how little they cost,

this ...Lost Shark caught my eye for obvious reasons,
its green like my arse and my favorite Spring season,
and I don't buy Chinese boards because that would be treason,
and they're brittle like crackers that I like to put cheese on...

so Erin Go Bragh and all else Irish as well,
don't drink and drive or I'll see you in hell!!!

the first sign of spring...

...the first drunken flip-flop of the year is a better sign than relying on a groundhog to tell you when Spring is here.

"...oh, uh...this is awkward. Hey listen, I had a really good time last night uh... and I never thought I 'd meet a nice piece of orange paper like you in a town like this...er...I should get back to my other half though. I'll call you some time..."

haole to you too...

...this is your typical WAVES customer. Expect to see a lot more of these types in the coming months as Myrtle Beach comes to Folly in the form of a new WAVES store next to the Folly Road Piggly Wiggly. The facade for this store (termed "Folly Funky") is down right atrocious, but never-the-less approved by the Folly Design Review Board. (shocker!!!) Who did you vote for last year?

Which end did it come out of???

...2 Modelos, 4 margaritas, taquitos plate, fish taco, and some extra rooster sauce for that burning sensation. Add it all up with one cup of morning coffee and you have mud butt, and the color schemes for theses two delightful Channel Islands single fins.

Faux sho'...

...here's a nice little "falsa" wood spray on an Allison Classic Longboard. Dimensions running at 9'2" x 23" x 3 1/4." No pressure, but... for $715 this board probably won't be in the shop by the end of the weekend. Good luck.

my abalone has a first name...

...Will Allison has been dabbling in abalone inlays and the initial results are nothing short of stellar. The intricate detail of the sea horse is cut using a laser beam due to the delicate nature of this substance. Pretty high-tech for a guy that doesn't even have a website, but who has time for a website when there are boards to be shaped and waves to be ridden. Mmmmmmm... abalone sandwich...

careful with that axe Eugene...

...what a way to start the year!!! Two of the best heats I've ever witnessed (Bede vs. Kelly and Mick vs. Kerrsy) took place last night during the Snapper Rocks contest. 9's were flying all over the place and they were definitely being earned. Sick Mick "Eugene" Fanning was in his typical Snapper form and tore the place to bits earning himself his 2nd victory at Snapper and the #1 ranking to start the season.

Hayne's quiver???

...booger, cooler lid, amoeba, sponger, lunch tray, speed bump, shark biscuit, tea bag, d*** dragger, turtle rooter... oh, I could go on for days. Whatever you call them, we have one for every size.

TGIF...

...wow, we finally got some waves and to sweeten the deal I got to watch this yakker take one on the head. There's just something wrong with sitting down and riding waves.
