Gromfest Aught 12

That's right, just 13 days away is our annual Gromfest can be found at the washout. Unfortunately in this case grom refers to anyone "relatively" new to being alive, not just people who are new to surfing. You have to have been alive less then 18 years to compete. For older groms, there are always novice divisions in adult contests. Don't forgot, July 21, all surf contestants are also entered to win a 5'5" Lost Round Nose Fish.

Disappearing Grom

Mondays can be a little slow, even in the summer. After receiving a huge shipment of boogie boards, we had our youngest team grom McHenry Jackson pay some dues to kill some time.

Here is a look at the first tropical storm of the year, Alberto, which was kind enough to pop up off of our coast Saturday. Hopefully you got out there Saturday night or Sunday morning, but if not there should be something to ride the next few days. I think this storm might serve as more of an indicator of a busy storm season then a swell machine. Time will tell, but here is an excellent site to keep an eye on the tropics.

In other news, congratulations are in order for the Mckevlin's Surf Team, 1st place winner's from yesterday's team challenge. Nice work Kyle, Ellison, Evan, and Bryant.

What Size Sub Scorcher Should I Get?

Well... Matt Biolos, the shaper of ...Lost surfboards was supposed to come by the shop today to answer questions and give stuff away but he's sick. We found out late last night that he will be able to come Friday May 25th at the same time, 5pm-7pm. If you order or buy a new ...Lost board while Matt is here you will get $50 off as well as a free pair of ...Lost boardshorts. Sorry if you were planning on coming tonight, but just push it back until Friday.

Uber Black Nose Rock Mini Feeder

Lost is no stranger to combining boards to create new models the, Sub Driver, Sub Scorcher, Mini Driver, and Black Sheep are all examples. In this tradition they have created the Uber Black Nose Rock Mini Feeder which features a compilation of the best aspects from the Uber Plank, Black Sheep, Round Nose Fish, Rocket (V2), Mini Driver, and Bottom Feeder. This board is ideal for big wave groveling, and works really well in clean big powerful small mushy surf. It can be ridden as a quad, quint, thruster, or twin fin. Be sure to pick one up before the Spring Summer Fall Winter swells. It also combines traditional polyester construction with the German engineered Hydroflex construction to enhance its variability.

Brazilian Victory

Here is Gabriel Medina, this years winner of the coveted golden railroad spike from the Nike Lower's Pro. With arguably some of the best contest surfing seen, Medina took the victory against Ireland born Glenn Hall in the final heat; and while the final heat left a little to be desired, those leading up to the final are definitely worth taking a look at. You can watch the heats on demand here. Do yourself a favor and check it out, especially the semi-finals Medina vs. Buchan.

We just got some new Solid surfboards in last week. This is a new brand for Mckevlin's, but are priced right at $475... for epoxy. Polyester costs the same. These boards are made in California with the support of FCS, which means they only come with FCS (even customs). The shapes pictured above are some that we have in stock and are in order of left to right are the Butterknife, the Sasquash, the Discus, and the Turntable. Find out more about them at Solid's Website.

The Nub of Destiny

Ok, you really like your quad, but it can be squirrelly on steeper faces. Get the nubster. Your down the line speed will be coupled with reliable hold...

 ... see Kelly likes 'em.

Come by the shop and get your quint fin set up board outfitted with "The Nubster" before this weekends swell hits. We have them in either FCS or Future.

Small Wave Offering From CI

Well, this board is ugly, but most of the time the ugliest boards work the best. Designed by hipsters for hipsters and people who have to surf small waves and hate longboards. Come by the shop and place your order before your neighbor does and you have to watch them shred apart knee high summertime windchop while you paddle for 5 minutes only to stand up and have your board sink beneath you.

Flat Today.... waves tomorrow

It was pretty flat out there today, but who cares? It's Folly Gras.

I used Surfline's new future cam to take a sneak peek at the washout tomorrow afternoon. Make sure you bring at least two boards.

Dane Reynolds: Awful Hipster or Awesome Surfer

I don't have a problem with disheveled looking people. If you can't afford showers or laundry then I understand. What does push me towards annoyance is when this "style" is purposefully and painstakingly sought after. Dane Reynolds has a lot of money, and I assume (because his job is going on surf trips) time. So why does he dress like a homelessmen?

On the other hand, he surfs better than most, and by most I mean about 99.8% of surfers. Look at him swooping around with his eagle wing stance. He doesn't have to drive to work or compete in contests yet still makes a sh!t load of money. With all of this time and money, what does he do? He tries to look like a bum.

What do you think about ole D.R.? Awful Hipster, awesome surfer, or both?
Vote to the right -----> and up.

In the spirit of small waves...

... We decided to show a longboard movie. Why get everyone pumped to surf good waves when the only thing on the menu is windchop this Saturday and maybe the same this afternoon? The movie premiere is free and will feature a live preformance from Justin James & Co., who have a few songs in the movie. The fun begins at 8:00pm on the Thurs. the 19th.
