Back To The Future

A grumpy local brought this little flash from the past by last Sunday. It is amazing how even back then this Country Surfboard circa early 70s was ahead of its time. Imagine a board in which the nose and tale are pretty close to indistinguishable. Maybe riding "switch" was popular back then.

This is the nose.

... or is this?
alright, now it is starting to make sense.
And here it is in all 9 feet of its retro glory. This board was definitely built for shredden some big heavy gnar. And it probably did until it was found in a trash pile in Maui.

P.S. in case you haven't noticed this isn't Ian. He is too busy surfing in California and has passed the ever-burning blog torch to me, Drew, and since I will be here in the surf starved city of Folly I will have plenty of time for posting.

You weren't missing much from the above deleted comment and Ian will be back probably in 3 months when he is tired of not being able to paddle out.

Drew I'm glad someone is keeping up this blog. I would like to see it tie in with the Lines newsletter a bit in the future.

Killer board photos, most likely shaped by underground guru Roger Hinds.

This is your one pass. Remember that this is a tough crowd. So look at this carefully from your post and detect what's wrong....

"nose and tale"

(Hint: spell check)

Hey, Old Kookster. Spell check wouldn't work for "tale" because it is a real word...needs proper word to use / grammer check...something like that. Good job Mr. Drew...keep the torch burning.

You are right, but spell check used to just mean check your spelling....not hit a button. And, keep in mind, I didn't say Drew is doing a bad job....

The key to this blog has always been to give each other s**t in a lovingly dysfunctional way.

Now move over before I drop in on 'ya.

You are right about the spell check not picking up the miss use of tale instead of tail. Oh well. New post coming tomorrow. A little wave maybe this weekend too.

Hey surfy surfy... you know about these old gems? It has the word "TAO" on the stringer above the laminate and lower towards the tail it says "Shape Buckwheat". And I found it in a trash pile on Maui, in the gulch above Jaws. It had a glass on fin which was missing and I put in the fin box...back when I had too much time on my hands.

Thanks in advance for any knowledge you may have. I imagine they didn't hand out Country laminates to just anyone and Buckwheat is a name that is hard to forget.
