More details? I would have to say, they had it coming... all of them. They had everyone out the water. While Al and Jesse will be proud of the attempt of racial sensationalism, singling out that one picture isn't really fair to FBPD now is it?????

On topic, it seems some people have no respect for the law, fellow surfers or fellow citizens (fishermen). I was out yesterday but being a law abiding citizen, got out before legal hours were up so I was not witness to the "beat down". I also stay a legal and respectable distance from the fishermen on the pier (300 feet). Some kids were right up against it mouthing off to the folks fishing. What do you expect will happen?

And what's with all the ho-dads who go leashless in the crowds? One dude on a blue longboard (not to mention dropping in people and paddling furiously for each and every single ripple that came withing 30 yards of him) lost his board twice yesterday morning, each time coming very close to me as I paddled back out after carving up another beauty with multiple sections and demolishing the inside closeout. I think if his board had hit me I would have had to ding it up consiberally for him. You aint no hero for not wearing a leash, you're an idiot who can't hold on to his board in waist to stomach high soft Folly surf. Weak!

I hope they crack down hard on the Holiday Inn parking lot, surfing times and leashes... you leashless, you lose it.... as in confiscation to be sold at auction.

Thank you Folly Beach PD and the County guys also. Keep it up, maybe next time they'll all go over to the Isle of Palms (no restrictions and don't need a leash there)!

I have been surfing for 6 years now, and it seems that having a leash is a "good" thing; esp. if it is a great swell. I have to say that after 6 years there seems to be one absolute to surfing: there will always be that "guy" that thinks he owns the ocean, and ruins it for everyone with his demanding with vulgarity that others stay away from "his" wave, even if he does not have good positioning for it, or the shoulder is 20 feet away from him!!!

Got the skinny this morning about what went down. A few dip sh@ts were mouthing off to fisherman, grabbing their lines and trying to pull in their rods. Ass h*les. If we do not respect everyone in the water, the man will take away the priveledge to surf. I have seen it done at better breaks than folly.

I would say this, it is imperative that McKevlins and all the surfshops try to instill the idea of following the rules to the young surfers you see. I know that runs counter to the surf culture and I will tell you I was a hot head back in the day towards johnnie law, but that said, these bad apples will ruin the surfing we have unless we all call out these jerks when they act that way. That means backing off the pier and wearing a leash. We do not have the luxury of going leashless when we have a beach full of 10 year olds, and quite frankly, besides Glenn Tanner(who wears a leash) ya'll aren't all that good to go leashless. I have yet to see one of those leashless jerks go a session with out loosing their board.

Peace out and lets hope for surf

Everyone is right but it is so sad to see what has become of folly beach. I have not surfed there in years since moving to California but it looks everyone else is taking the fun out of surfing for everyone. I mean whatever happen to the day when surfing was about you, your board, and the waves. Now you guys have to worry about parking, paying for parking, swimmers, fishermen, way heavier growds then California. I mean Folly is just too small and shrinking, don't get me wrong Califorina has crowds if you surf top breaks but I can still surf with three other guys in good waves at certin spots. Its just sak to me to see what Folly has turned into.

Why you think I'm so grumpy all the time?

I dont agree that they shouldve lumped everyone together. They shouldve just got those that mouthed off and then gave everyone outside of 200ft. a warning.

And just because you wear a leash doesnt make you less dangerous. I've seen plenty, even those with quite a bit of experience, not kick out of a wave properly. They rely on the leash that could allow the board to "spear" someone. I surf without a leash on my longboards and it has taught me alot about securing my board. Keep in mind I am conscious about swimmers on the inside and will not surf in areas that could possibly hit anyone if I do lose my board. I keep the rule that if I lose my board 3 times...its time to go get the leash.

The two fark faces that brought the ruckus with the fisherman were spared because the were from "out of town" and it would be too much of a hassle for the police.

The leash is definitely not the complete solution. The proper kickout and board control should be something that every surfer learns. Maybe all the local surf camps can include that into their program, for an additional fee of course, and I'm not sure how many kids will absorb it with a 4 to 1 student/instructor ratio.

I WILL NOT longboard with a leash, I'd rather not surf at all.

That being said, its 3:30pm and there are 10 people surfing at the pier right now...
