Long Live the King

I awoke this morning with a feeling that today I would be visited by greatness.

At about 11:45 my prior premonition became a glorious reality as royalty graced our tourist worn carpet.

Although his every step was met by the stares of awe struck commoners he moved in a haze of regal grace.

Now that I have been so close to greatness my only regret is that my life has reached its peak because I know no experience following today's could ever compare.

Lurking in the Shadows

While Drive Thru director Greg Browning was looking through some of the water sequences of Donavon Frankenreiter body surfing he noticed something interesting.

It seems Donny and Greg weren't alone in the water...

Check out the Drive Thru Australia (Again) premiere tomorrow night 8:00pm at Surf Bar.

Hair Cut Contest

Often times when I see guys like this in front of the Sand Dollar Social Club I think to myself that, "if that guy entered a haircut contest he would definetly win."

So today I decided to hold my own haircut contest, and guess what... that guy won.
Congratulations Dale or Chet or whatever your name is.

Stick it to the airlines

With Delta charging $300 each way for surfboards on international flights per board, USAir charging $100 each way per board, and Spirit Air charging $75 each way per board, it is about time somebody found a way to travel with a quiver and not pay more for baggage fees then the plane ticket itself. The idea of a surfboard that can be broken down for travel is not a new idea, but what makes this board different is that it is not only a board that can be broken down it is also two boards in one.

Built by Oldham Custom Shapes this 6'7" 5 fin bonzer inspired by the bing synchronizer also becomes a 6'2" quad with the removal of a tail section and a fin swap.

So far this board is one of a kind, but with no end to outrageous surfboard baggage fees in sight it seems like a 2 board quiver you can bring with you for a standard $15 baggage fee is an idea that may catch on.

You can read more about this board here.

Drive through Australia... again

After the success of 5'5" x 19 1/4" Redux it is no wonder the Drive Thru series decided to remake Drive Thru Australia. What is the title of this latest exploration of Australian surf? Well it seems that to induce as much confusion as possible they are calling it Drive Thru Australia. I guess Drive Thru Australia Again seemed a bit mundane. Despite borrowing a page from the Fast and Furious series of films I'm sure this film will be pleasing to the eyes as it will feature some new spots surfed by your favorite Drive Thru crew Andy, Shane, Pat O, Benji, Donny, and Occy. We will be premiering the movie at surf bar Wednesday the 29th at 8pm for free. Please... stop by and enjoy.

The New Washout

Well, at this point you probably already know that a little bit of ground swell is building. I just wanted all of you to know about the new washout about three blocks down on the west side of the island. It is always 5 times bigger then the old washout and has long lines with barreling sections. So next time you surf... go there.

Results are in...

With a vote of 7 to 5 favoring no ban the polls were close, but it seems that the policy of banning alcohol from the beach is still a possibility. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Oh yeah, it also turns out that kids still roller blade. I thought people stopped that after every one started calling them fruit boots.

...ruins it for everyone

At this point you are probably aware of all of the trash that was left behind after the celebrations of our emancipation from tyrannical Britain, but what you may not be aware of is the consequences which could come into effect. To anyone who sees this picture and others, which can be seen HERE, it is clear that something needs to be done to combat this overflow of garbage. One solution that is being kicked around City Hall is the banning of alcohol on the beach. This is not a new idea, but now a new reason for it has come to light giving the alcohol ban some steam. Personally I think that the litter is just an excuse to push forward this anti-alcohol legislation as other means of regulation (stricter enforcement of the no cans or bottles on the beach law) would seem to make more sense. Now don't get me wrong, I hate nothing more then a bunch of Ohioans getting drunk and trying to catch a football while tripping over each other, but I also hate being told what I can or can't do.
What can you do? Well, they are inviting the public to be heard on the evening of the 27th at 6:30 in City Hall so show up and tell them what you think.

At Long Last

With a ship date of June 1st and a delivery date of July 9th, half of our long awaited and much anticipated Lost order has finally arrived. It has been a long and arduous journey but after a month and some change, their trek across the continental United States has met its conclusion. We received 21 boards, too many to list. But we did get several round nose fish and rockets. We even got a few in XTR.

...I know someone who will be excited.

Dedication

So... you think you are a fan of Lost.

Maybe you have one of their stickers

Maybe you ride one of their boards.

Maybe you wear their hats.

You might even wear their T-shirts, but...

... you still don't like lost as much as this guy.
(and he is only 15)

Karma.

I guess I shouldn't have made fun of people with cankles... lesson learned.

Enjoy the Fourth... Relax.

It is important to celebrate your country's independence from the power hungry tyrants of Great Britain (a different time). In that spirit go foward and enjoy your BBQs and fireworks, but don't forget to relax. It seems that this year Rita has found another way to celebrate her independence. You know, I always thought she was squinting all the time. Now I know why.
