The Results Are In.

It looks like most people can agree that ESM IS a bunch of p^ssies with an overwhelming 70% of the vote. Another 12% of you also think ESM is a bunch of pussies... but not as much as Ian. 18% of you think ESM is not a bunch of p^ssies leading me to believe you love soft boards and gentle evening cruises down the line up on your SUP. Oh yeah, Mark heard what you guys said about his photoshop work... and he knows where you live.

funny that you call other people pussies when you won't even print the whole word (pˆssies)

Alright this is getting old, give it up, move on to something else.

If you really want make a statement buck up more cash and be one of the bigger underwriters to the publication.

And like someone else mentioned, check the products in you store, how much is made in the US? How much is made locally?
Heck your own hoodie designs are a pop-out. Last time I was on the west coast, I stopped in a surfshop and they had the same hoodie, just with their name on it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no popouts, sure.

Hoodie pop-out.

Check-out:

I've got one that say's McKevlins rather than Cannon Beach.

Couldn't get someone local to design it or print it?

OMG!

i saw some kids on the beach with McKevy's rent-a-boards.

to my dismay, they were pop-outs!

what's up with that?

hippo-cracky?

Find a company that makes clothes in the U.S. that are at a price people can afford and I am sure that Tim would take a look. Sadly you will find there are very few options meeting that criteria. Why aren't we moving on to something else? Well today was the end of the poll and I thought it was worth mentioning. As far as the "pop-out" hoodie goes, the company that we get our shop clothes from has set patterns to choose from. While I agree some original artwork would be better, there is no way to do that while making the clothes affordable.

We could do some hoodies with original artwork but it will cost the customers an extra $15.00 - $20.00 per hoodie. For all his criticism It seems like anonymous isn't very well educated in the world of retail. A world we are forced to participate in to keep the shop running as the mark up on surfboards isn't even enough to make selling them worth it with out some T-shirts here and there. Seems to me that anonymouses, who won't even share their name, are pretty big pussies.

If we rented real boards then we would be constantly doing repairs. Besides, if you rent a pop-out and ride it then you can truly understand how much they suck.

One more thing. Who is lamer a hypocrite or a person who follows the blog of a hypocrite? If you don't like what we have to say then don't read it.

I voted No early on. I like soft boards, rekon they have a niche with kids and beginners. I wouldn't say I "love" them.

I enjoy gentle cruises, evben in the line up, but don't have (or want) an SUP.

And the ad, well I'm no media guru but it does look a little 5th or 6th grade to me. If I had seen it in the mag, I wouldn't have bothered reading the small print. I would have given a silent "pfffft", tell me what you have that is good, not what someone else has that is bad.

Just as the shop has every right not to carry "pop outs" and be vocal about their disapproval of the product, ESM has every right not to run any add they don't want to run.

Unless you really are a "do as I say and not as I do" type business???

No Popouts*

*unless we want to make money on board rentals

Drew said...

You know what, you guys are right. All this no pop-out stuff is a bunch off bull sh!t we use to alienate customers and make less money on surfboards. It is a lot easier to sell a $600 dollar pop-out and make $350 then a $600 dollar shaped board and make $75.00minus the cost of a leash, wax, fin key, and fins. We only do this to appear "core" while we make millions of $$$ off of tourists renting sponge boards. But hey, don't tell anyone. I don't want everyone to know about our egregious hypocracy.

Exactly, you are trying to provide an affordable product to the customer and we appreciate it, and so is ESM.

Get it?

And I follow the blog becuase it is interesting and I usually enjoy reading it. And I agree about supporting 'real' shapers, but three post over a week, about the same issue... well it gets old. Would like have seen a post about a run of 10 days or so or rideable surf. Or what a about the wahine contest this weekend?

"If we rented real boards then we would be constantly doing repairs. Besides, if you rent a pop-out and ride it then you can truly understand how much they suck." Not really, pop outs have a place as you guys demonstrate, rentals, beginners, people strapped for cash.
Bics, softtops and other pop outs have their benefits, if you just want to cruise, they are fine. Great to rent out. And the monthly warrior, well they won't know the difference. And frankly, I wish surfshops rented out thruster pop outs. When I'm travelling and don't want to drop a couple hundred bucks on board fees, I would love to rent something other than an 8' softtop

Just my hypocritical opinion, on a open discussion blog. Peace

Ha HA HA I can't believe you rent pop outs. No Popouts blah blah blah. So you bought some to rent right? Enough with your sanctamonious garbage. You bought popouts. You sell clothes made in china and mexico, and boards made in other states. Your store is all about the almighty dollar, but you try and act like you are supporting locals blah blah blah. It is comical. Oh and the artwork sucks

grumpy local said...

Oh, now you're just being hurtful.

Drew said...

I know, I am going to cry. No sh!t our boards are made in other states, we make no claims otherwise. When did we say anything about supporting local shapers?

Anonymous said...

well if you are going to but up a huge NO POPOUTS sign then how about not renting POPOUTS you douchebag.

Anonymous said...

tourists don't need good boards that they will destroy.bic's work just fine for them.

All I'm reading here is flat spell rage.

But, again, can we disable anonymous posting, so at least we know who's calling who a pussy or whatever. I mean crap, a pseudonym only take another second to type and it gives you the anonymity to have cajones from behind a keyboard.
