stylemasters 4...

...Jimmy Slade is that you? Solid dismount as always, he pretends like he's riding his seat-less bicycle off the wave.

Not that this has anything to do with the video....but here's a cut and past of a summary from Bubber Hutto about the upcoming Council vote on "POSSIBLE", new surfing restriction changes.....

DURING “SUMMER SEASON”, May 15 – September 15

EXISTING ORDINANCES (1995)

Surfing is NOT allowed from East 6th to West 7th, during “summer season”, that being from May 15 to September 15 between the hours of 10AM to 6PM.

PIER: Surfing within 200 feet of the pier on either side is not allowed (Ever……..not before 10AM, not after 6PM).

JET SKIS: Jet skis had to OPERATE at least 500 feet offshore, and had to remain at least 300 feet away from the pier, but there were no other restrictions governing where they could launch, or where they could approach the beach to land.

PROPOSED ORDINANCES (2008)

Surfing will not be allowed from East 3rd to West 2nd, during the “summer season”, that being from May 15 to September 15, between the hours of 10AM to 6 PM.

PIER: Surfing within 200 feet EAST of the pier, and 300 feet WEST of the pier is not allowed (Ever……..not before 10AM, not after 6PM).

JET SKIS: Jet skis will not be allowed to OPERATE within the same stand off distances, and must remain well off the beach at all times (I believe it is 500 feet, but not sure) HOWEVER, they will be allowed to LAUNCH “straight out from and straight back into the beach” in a lane between 275 feet and 325 feet West of the pier.

The result of this change is that the overall restricted area is significantly REDUCED. The same dates and time limits which have been in effect since 1995 remain unchanged, so, during the summer season, surfing will not be allowed after 10AM, up until 6PM. The County Parks and Recreation Department does not allow surfing in areas where they post lifeguards.

Jet ski operation is restricted, and launching is allowed only in a narrow alley near the pier.

If you are asked to leave the area by a lifeguard, a pier employee of Charleston County PRC, or by Public Safety, please do so.

DURING “OFF-SUMMER SEASON”, September 16 – May 14

EXISTING ORDINANCES (1995):

No restrictions on surfing, except surfing within 200 feet of the pier on either side is not allowed (Ever……..not before 10AM, not after 6PM).

JET SKIS: Jet skis had to OPERATE at least 500 feet offshore, and had to remain at least 300 feet away from the pier, but there were no other restrictions governing where they could launch, or where they could approach the beach to land.

PROPOSED ORDINANCES (2008):

No restrictions on surfing, except surfing within 200 feet EAST of the pier, and 300 feet WEST of the pier is not allowed (Ever……..not before 10AM, not after 6PM).

The result of this change is that the stand off distance from the pier is expanded on the West side (Holiday Inn/Condos) by an additional 100 feet. This expanded stand off distance is at the request of Charleston County Parks and Recreation Department. Right now, the orange buoy which is moored offshore is supposedly at the 300 foot distance, but we have requested that COFB provide a “hard” marker up on the beach as well. It was suggested that something very similar to what is done in NC, a short telephone pole, painted red, be erected on the beach that is readily visible from the water.

JET SKIS:

Jet skis will not be allowed to OPERATE within the same stand off distances, and must remain well off the beach at all times (I believe it is 500 feet, but not sure) HOWEVER, they will be allowed to LAUNCH “straight out from and straight back into the beach” in a lane between 275 feet and 325 feet West of the pier.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

There have been requests by County PRC to expand the “summer season” to include the entire months of May and September, but this doesn’t have overwhelming support from all Council members right now.

The current restrictions on surfing between East 6th and West 7th have been temporarily suspended by the Town Administrator and the Mayor, since incidents in the area beyond the safe swim area are down, however the restrictions on surfing in the areas where PRC has lifeguards are in full effect, and the stand off distances from the pier remain in effect.

Surfing up against the pier never has been legal, although enforcement of this restriction has been limited in recent years, as confrontational incidents between surfers and fishermen had been significantly reduced. However, a recent increase in the number of incidences over the past 3 to 4 months in the area have required that the stand off distances be increasingly enforced by Public Safety, due mostly to infringement into the stand off distance by surfers. These stand off distances are in effect for several reasons, but the main ones are; (1) to keep waders and swimmers from being injured by fishing tackle which has been lost off of the pier, (2) to allow sufficient room for people who have paid to fish off of the pier to be able to do so, and (3) to attempt to eliminate confrontations between surfers and pier users.

After the Council vote on Tuesday 22 July 2008, the final version of the revised ordinances will be posted, and I’m sure they will be announced by City Hall.

i wish you guys and girls could hear some of the stories my dad has about the surfing restrictions on Folly when he was younger.... besides he is the best damn story teller ever.. i just about piss my pants when i hear about the life guard / public safety personel that would paddle out and try to stop people from surfing.... on the subject of fishing..... there should be regulations that apply to people who decide not to fish from the pier... but rather 200 ft. from it.... that just blows my goat... damnit.. i am all about shareing the ocean but lets not turn a blind eye to the other half of the population...

djjahd, it really worries me how much you refer to blowing goats.

i don't blow the goats.... things that make me aggro. blow my goat....

Then your goat must have a perpetual smile.

But, I'm still bothered that someone's goat is getting blown.....just wrong.

piers, queers and goats...sounds like a "job" for jim slade.

The reason for the ass to board dismount is the bad case of clap i picked up in an asian massage parlor. ;)

I'll try and work on perfecting the ole so stylish Ian Riggs butt stance next time.

Hunch over a little more Grrrr.

Sorry, totally uncalled for. It was actually a German massage parlor and it wasnt the clap, it was a nasty little case of hepatitis C.

what a load of crap.everybody knows surfers lose.most of those laws have been around ,and unenforced forever, till needed.to see all those unridden waves during berthas swell, with no swimmers in the water ,was a testamount to all the waves we 've lost.We never challenged the laws before because they weren't enforced ,didn't effect us ,we still got to surf the pier.
Please ,no more favors.

whaaaa whaaaa whaaaaa huh huh whaaaa whaaaaa whaaaaa huh huh whaaaa whaaaaa whaaaaaa....

Funny how I surfed the entire Bertha swell to my hearts content and the Folly pier law didn't affect me in the least bit. How do you rekon that is? Maybe because instead of watching and crying about unridden waves I surfed somewhere else...duh, ya think?

During Bertha I got pulled by some douche cop just cuz I wuz doin 75 by Crosbys.. hey man surf was up bro..anyway as douche walks up to the Beamer, he sees my Al Merrick laying in the passangers seat so he knows I'm a for real ripper and I make my own rules. He fumbled for sumthin to say but I told him off and when I told him who my dad was and how he knows the mayor and judge an all the douche not only let me off without even a warning but gave me 5 bucks for parking.

Ya just gotta know how to handle the cops bros.

I was watching both of these videos and noticed that even on small waves I saw no drop knee turns, cross stepping or nose riding. If you aren't do any of these classic moves, you're "NOT" longboarding. More guys riding these classic boards should concentrate on these basic moves.

Style Masters 4 is meant as an exaggeration you window licker.

So that really is you Jimmy Slade!

lil jimmy rides monster boards cause he can't short board. too old i suppose.

Anonymous said...

Yep, sadly that is me on the biggest wave that came through that morning. If you'll notice, its kindof hard to cross step or nose ride when the wave doesnt even break behind you.

Plus I was too busy getting dropped in on by the Asian Sensation.

No excuses for the dismount.

Jimmy Slade has one of the sickest laybacks on the Washout circuit. Too bad he denies his potential by riding a popout twin fin.

Yep, Ian hates my "plastic fantastic" ways so much he loaned me a twin fin round nose fish to develop my surfing on. When its all said and done, I Grrr hopes we'll all be surfing just like he does. Drop in, pump down the line and fall attempting a backside chop hop 180.

Please move to California already.

do you think i can borrow the twin fin plasto.... i need to develop something besides cobbwebs on my junk.....
