Bertha the bummer...

...yesterday they had this sucker coming right across toward Puerto Rico, and now its taking a hard right toward Bermuda. Not so promising for swell as of now but stay tuned for further details.

On behalf of the Massey family I'd like to say thank you to everyone who came out for the paddle out last night in honor of Craig. I was half surprised to see so many people in attendance, and I say half because he was just that likable of a kid. With a keg in the sand and all friends and family in attendance, the huge paddle out turned into a giant expression session. It pretty much went down just the way Craig would have wanted it to. Peace on Craig. You will be missed.

As far as the hurricane.... I'm glad the storm has turned for 2 reasons.
First, I am a home owner with a family, pets etc... evacuating is a bitch...but what is more of a bitch would be the crybabies who only surf the pier "when the washout is closed out and it's good at the pier" whining about not being able to surf there in the middle of day....

Dawn patrol is too early.... they are still sleeping with dick in hand, evening sessions cuts into party time. Whaa whaa whaaa

Good riddance Bertha.

Come on Mr.Grumpy Local. Why pick a fight with the younger generation. You can't be so old and anti social that you cannot remember what it was like to be young running after girls and trying to act grown up, while making numerous mistakes along the way. It's the way we learn to be adults. I was a pretty good kid once and for the most part stayed out of trouble. I too am a home owner with a family and pets, work in a professional setting. Sometimes the kids at the Washout act immature but I try to overlook it and I get along with all of them very well with mutual respect. And as for hurricane Bertha...like everyone else that surfs I hope that it gets close enough to give us some good swell but not too close to cause damage to life and property. If you are a true surfer on the "East Coast" it is what you live and wait for every year. I think I speak for every surfer in our area when I say "I've about had it with knee to waist wind chop!" Wake up King Neptune and give us some well deserved swell. Hope everyone gets some no matter where and what you surf. Beginners remember to know your limitations when it gets bigger and please, please follow surfing's rule book. Aloha

Sorry, lost my train of thought. I was going to say that the turn out for Craig at the Washout was more than expected. It seemed to be at least a couple of hundred people there. Every age group represented, every board preference short and long represented. No one making negative comments, just a bunch of surfers saying goodbye "Aloha" to one of their own. I always enjoyed surfing with Craig, he wasn't a wave hog even though he had the talent to be one. Hope that all the other groms stay safe...be kind to everyone, you never know when they'll be gone. Surf on....

This is per SwellInfo as of 6a.m. today....

Saturday
Surf: Stomach to shoulder high ESE ground swell.
Conditions: Clean in the morning with W winds less than 5kt. Bumpy/semi bumpy conditions for the afternoon with the winds shifting ESE 5-10 kt.

Which will be great except for it being a Saturday and bringing out the extra crowds...oh well....that and my kid is supposed to surf in Gromfest....he'll drown for sure.

haole ,right on both counts.Mr. Miserable trolling for happy people, and what a nice turnout for Craig .

I.R. said...

Gromfest is postponed until after the Governors Cup.

Because "happy people" won't make slight compromises concerning the use of a public beach and consider themselves living in bondage under a communist rule surrounded by inbred morons...and voice such opinions on local surf blogs... even though they could use said public beach for 4 1/2 hours in the mornings and 2 1/2 hours in the evening...gotcha, Mr. Happy and Mr. Haole.

Once again the logic exhibited here is astounding.

Besides, hurricane swells are way over rated and over hyped..have fun this weekend surfing with 400 of your bestest buddies.

dude, give it a rest

Gromfest is cancelled??? Hell they didn't mention it on Follywaves or the SSC ESA site. I freaking took days off for it.....

The Groom Fest was rescheduled due to a couple of reasons. The Reef Pro/Am up in Wrightsville Beach is the same weekend and a few of our locals are going to attend. Also, in wake of Craig's passing no one is in the mood to hold a contest. Enjoy what waves we get from that hurricane. And since that one fellow who loves picking fights with the entire beach won't be surfing, just means an extra wave for someone else. I'll venture to say he probably can't surf very well anyway. Just a self rightous individual who isn't happy or perhaps has some sort of clinical depression problems. Don't be hating on everyone who enjoys life and what it has to offer. I truly feel sorry for people such as Grumpy Local. They go through this short life be misserable...so sad. On the other hand he may be just some dude that enjoys stirring up trouble and hiding behind a screen name so no one will know who it was that pissed them off. Alot of psycho analysis here, but who gives a shit. Lets all just ignore grumpy guy/gal's comments. Seems like he just keeps bringing up old subject matter anyway. I wish Grumpy the best, it takes more energy to be angry than happy. Surf on...Aloha!

Actually I just stir it up so Ian will get hits on his blog and I get free wax.

You people still crack me up. I don't mind not surfing the pier mid day, 4 months out of the year yet I'm the miserable one "picking fights with the entire beach".

"Don't be hating on everyone who enjoys life and what it has to offer"... because I don't mind the surfing restriction compromise and obey the law. LOL. Go sit on a rainbow haole boy.

And the "grumpy local" thing is just for kicks... I'm not grumpy or a "Folly local", and happier than you could imagine, all kinds of free time on my hands, surfed all over the globe...Hell I even won a McKevlins Shred Fest Masters division one year, even though I can't surf that well...and if there are waves, I'll be surfing, just not sitting with the mass of people cramped together like sheep.

Have fun. Hey, did you know it takes more muscles in you face to frown than it does to smile?

Well now I know about what age group you fall into and got you to open up a little as well. I've probably even surfed with you a time or two. Cool...and BTW, I'm not a rainbow hippie type. No hard feelings, just freedom of speech. Hope you get some good ones this weekend. Surf on...

I chuckle everytime I post stuff on here like the witch stiring the couldren... everyone in the shop knows who I am on this blog...No hard feelings, even to the anons, except the ones being ugly to the chick that time.

We probably do know each other haole. I'll be surfing out the boat this weekend if the swell arrives... hope we get a little something fo sho!

And I was kidding about Ian giving me free wax for stiring up the blog...

Dammit Grumpy, I was going to jump to your defense and admonish people for having no sense of humor or for not getting your wisdom that's hidden in the midst of most of your diatribes. But, nooooo, you lose it for a moment and get all soft on me. Way to go.

Fingers crossed that the possibility of a good swell holds.

All the people on this blog should get together sometime. All three of us.

I.R. said...

That's what I'm talking about. Imagine trying to come up with a photo and caption everyday for you and your two buddies to look at, and have neither one lose interest. I wish it on no one.

no way ian...you crazy guys keep me entertained and pissed off all at the same time! how lame is it that i am waiting until i am a better surfer before i surf folly and (gasp) reveal myself. you complete us!

you spelled it wrong again grumpy.

That is so wonderful that you think anyone cares who you are Bob. This type of personality should get you far in life. Good luck with learning to surf. You do have to be pretty good to surf on Folly however, so you should definitly stay on IOP.

Anonymous said...

thanks for the advice. it means so much to me.

Anonymous said...

Say what you want about this Bob guy, but he doesn't bother me half as bad as Grumpy Local and many Anons. I have your back Homo, I mean Hommie.

Anonymous said...

You mean you'll be on his back

djjahd said...

yes i am a muslim... you can find me surfing on IOP in my dashiki with bob... i surfed 196 feet from the pier at three o clock in the afternoon... but since the lifeguards though i was a militant muslim i was left alone....
