Police Week: Wednesday...

...Eddie Allen collects autographs from famous Folly Beach Public Safety officers. This one says "To Eddie, Keep shredding, just not next to the pier... Officer Fife" This autograph only cost him $50. What a deal!

Can you explain the process how they actually catch you and write you a ticket? I mean you have no ID - whats to stop you from telling them that your name is Jimmy Slade and you live at 911 Myturbenisdirty Ln. Please help me understand.

I think it was the charleston county parks workers that got on the bull horn to ask people to get away from the pier. Supposedly someone told them to fark off. So public safety gets called, they put a jet ski in the water; directed everyone to go to shore. For those that tried to sneak off, an officer on the beach on a 4-wheeler chased everyone down and rounded everyone up. At that time they explained to everyone young & old that they would be issuing $1000 fines and if you showed up for the court date (27th), the fines would be reduced to $50. And if you didnt agree with this you could get fined & have your board confiscated.

Wow, I want to move to folly! Everything sound so great and totally worth it for great waist high surf - Good luck in court tomorrow - I'm sure the judge is a surfer and will understand, yeah right.

Those of us who attended court were found Not Guilty of violating the Folly Beach surf restrictions.

The officer allowed tourists and juveniles (who caused the problem) to go; adult locals were issued citations for $50 and threatened with the $1000 ticket; the local law has a max. fine of $200. They were hassling locals.

Since I'd committed no crime, only not wanting to lie to the police (a crime)stopped me from giving C. Rackhead, etc. as my id.
