More Pacific Surf

To better compound the obscenely unbalanced distribution of surf throughout the world it seems as though Chile's earthquake will be sending waves as far as Hawaii. Thought to be the largest waves seen in the island chain state since 1964, Hawaii's south shores will be met with the first waves of the tsunami around 4:20 pm EST. Not to undermine the tragedy of Chile's earthquake or even imply that tsunami waves move slow enough to catch, I think it's the old Atlantic's turn for a bit of swell, even if it does come through at 60 mph.

Surfing...the Runway?

March 14, 2010 at Blu; Mamie Ruth, MEW Designs, and Coral Swim Wear will debut their Summer 2010 lines. I know that many of you aren't in to fashion and probably don't care much for fashion, but all proceeds due go to Surfer's Healing which is an organization you should care about. If you aren't familiar, Surfers Healing is an organization which travels from beach to beach in order to give autistic kids an opportunity to catch a few waves in order to build self confidence. So... Sunday the 14th be sure to head over to Blu to enjoy hors d'œuvres, cocktails, and women in bikinis all for just $20. Get your advance tickets here.

Lost Shop of the Week

Looks like Mckevlin's made Lost Enterprises' website shop of the week. Read more about it here.

...I hope it isn't just another gimmick.

Vinyl

This is The Disco, one of the new models from Sharp Eye this year.

I'm guessing the name came from the short squatty nature of the outline which is like a disk (sort of).

With a wide tail and low entry rocker this board is definitely comparable to a Sub-Scorcher from Lost or Dumpster Diver from CI. Either way, it's a solid thruster for weaker surf. I'm a fan of the single concave through the tail which works really well on Rockets and I'm sure it works on this board too.

Dimensions: 5'8" x 19 1/4" x 2 3/8" and only $470

Mavericks gets out of control.

Mavericks contest is today and conditions are epic (thanks El Niño).

Maybe a little too epic. The contest booth got washed out along with several spectators leaving a victim with a broken leg and another with a broken finger.

Check out the live cam here.

I got back yesterday.

I was in Costa Rica last week and we got some fun surf. It was a little smaller then it could have been on this day so we went into the mountains.

We spent the day here.

on the way back down the river we ran into this guy. Sloths usually only come down from the trees to poop, hopefully he took care of that before we got there.

...Surfer, Dude.

...stopped by the ...Lost factory yesterday to perve on some boards. It's always interesting to see who's getting boards (lots of McKevlin's customs) from Matt and crew. Needless to say I was shocked when I saw a couple of boards for surfer dude Matthew McConaughey.

...WTF again

...Santa Cruz ripper and sales rep extraordinaire Jesse Colombo scratches his head at the thought of the fact that someone actually make a 6'6" SUP that looks like a big toe. One of the many joys of ASR.

I was looking at the Surfermag forum and...

I.R. posted some pictures of himself surfing...

... and me duck diving. See them all here.

By the way, I'll be out of town next week so you will have plenty of time to enjoy this post.
